Eliza Griffiths is a Canadian painter whose work is concerned with explorations of psycho-socio-sexual themes through the creation of invented characters. Since the 1990s she has produced numerous bodies of paintings and several painting-based installations that have examined power dynamics in relationships, social convention and sexuality, social and personal dysfunction, and the challenges of trying to share mental experience. Her work has been widely exhibited throughout Canada and internationally, including exhibitions at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Centre, Buffalo, NY; Mercer Union, Toronto; the Saidye Bronfman Center, Montreal; Platform Gallery, London, UK; The Painting Center, NY; and ARCO, Madrid. Her work has been featured in publications such as Canadian Art Magazine, Border Crossings, and ARCO Madrid, and has been extensively collected privately and publicly.
Griffiths received a BFA from Concordia University in 1991, and did graduate Studies in Art History/Theory at Carleton University. She currently lives in Montreal and is Assistant Professor of painting and drawing at Concordia University.
