Cet événement est le cours inaugural de notre série Crash Course, qui explore une question, un thème ou un mouvement majeur dans la pratique de l’art contemporain.
Helena Reckitt s’intéresse de près aux manifestations clés de l’art, des théories et des artistes féministes depuis la fin des années 1960 jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Elle n’hésite pas à rendre compte de l’importance des différences entre les femmes qui ont marqué ce mouvement dès ses débuts. Ses recherches l’ont amenée à reconnaître et à tenter d’établir l’héritage du féminisme en art contemporain. À ce dessein, elle suit les pratiques de jeunes artistes dont le travail recycle des aspects du féminisme originel, tantôt implicitement tantôt explicitement, et affichant à l’occasion des accents plus ou moins ironiques.
Helena Reckitt a édité l’ouvrage de référence Art and Feminism (Phaidon Press, Londres, 2001). En collaboration avec Josh Oppenheimer, Mme Reckitt a édité Acting on AIDS: Sex, drugs and politics (Serpent's Tail, Londres, 1998). De 2002 à 2005, Reckitt vécut aux États-Unis, où elle travailla comme conservatrice à l’Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, en Géorgie.

This event inaugurates Crash Course, a series in which a distinguished speaker explores a major issue, theme or movement in contemporary art.
Helena Reckitt will survey key feminist artists, projects, and theories from the late 60’s to recent works. Reckitt highlights the ongoing conversations between artists of different generations, but she also points to the diverse and sometimes conflicting ideas explored in feminist art. She concludes by assessing the legacy of feminism in contemporary art, and by discussing the work of younger artists who engage aspects of early feminism implicitly, explicitly, and/or ironically.
Helena Reckitt is the editor of Art and Feminism (Phaidon Press, London, 2001). With Josh Oppenheimer she edited Acting on AIDS: Sex, drugs and politics (Serpent’s Tail, London, 1998). From 2002 – 2005, Reckitt was curator at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
