Past Recipients:

The Ottawa Art Gallery was awarded the bursary for the initiation of a new program based on art creation for youth in collaboration with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and professional artists. Inspired by the Gallery's exhibition "Off Grid," featuring artworks that respond to the nature of urban living, a group of high-school students will develop a collective art intervention over a six-week period.

Urban Shaman, a Winnipeg artist-run centre, received the award for "Pointing with the Lips," a mentorship program for inner-city Native Canadian youth of exceptional artistic promise. Working at Children of the Earth High School and at Urban Shaman Gallery, students worked with professional artists in a wide variety of media, learned how to write an artist statement, create an invitation, install an exhibition and prepare materials for the press.

The Ford City Discovery Centre in Windsor, Ontario, received the award for their Mural Arts program. The centre works with schools, social service agencies and local galleries to create art programs that serve a community that includes children from low-income families. For a six-week afterschool course taught by professional artists, participants created murals for the Windsor Essex Children's Aid Society playroom.
