Tracer, Retracer 2

La commissaire Nicole Gingras poursuit son investigation de la notion de trace, amorcée au printemps 2005. ce deuxième volet regroupe les oeuvres de Edith Dekyndt (communauté française de Belgique), Leif Elggren (Suède), Raymond Gervais (Québec), Mika Taanila (Finlande) et Mika Vainio (Finlande). L'exposition réunit des installations, des œuvres sonores, une projection vidéo.

La notion de transmission et de circulation des images et des sons est centrale à cette exposition. Les œuvres sélectionnées révèlent de singulières expériences sur le plan de l'image et du son. Ces présences sont parfois très physiques et matérielles alors que d'autres sont plutôt de l'ordre du fantomatique ou même de l'absence. L'ensemble de ce projet s'interroge sur la trace ou les traces que laissent en nous certaines rencontres avec un son ou une image.

L'exposition est précédée d'un concert réunissant quatre artistes - deux participant à l'exposition - reconnus sur la scène internationale pour leur contribution exceptionnelle à la musique électronique et la singularité de leurs performances respectives. Le concert est une co-production de la Galerie Leonard et Bina Ellen et de Minute.

Une PUBLICATION bilingue sera lancée durant la tenue de l'exposition.

Une CONFÉRENCE de Carl Michael von Hausswolff effectue un relais avec le premier volet de Tracer, Retracer. Sa communication portera sur lOEuvre de Friedrich Jürgenson, artiste suédois qui a exposé dans Tracer, Retracer en 2005. En anglais.

Le projet a reçu le soutien du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Fonds Iris Westerberg Stern. La présence à Montréal d'Edith Dekyndt a bénéficié de l'appui du Commissariat général aux Relations internationales de la Communauté française de Belgique et de la Délégation Wallonie-Bruxelles au Québec; alors que Leif Elggren et Carl Michael von Hausswolff ont reçu l'appui de l'Ambassade de Suède pour leur séjour à Montréal. Le concert est une co-production de la Galerie Leonard et Bina Ellen et de Minute.

Tracking the Traces 2

Curator Nicole Gingras continues her investigation of sound in contemporary art, begun in the spring of 2005. This second exhibition features Edith Dekyndt (French Community of Belgium), Leif Elggren (Sweden), Raymond Gervais (Québec), Mika Taanila (Finland), and Mika Vainio (Finland), with works in installation, sound, and video projection.

The central focus of this exhibition is the transmission and circulation of images and sounds. The presence of these elements is at times very physical and material, other times more ephemeral and imaginary. The project as a whole reflects on the trace or traces that are left with us through certain encounters with a sound or an image.

The exhibition will be preceded by a concert reuniting four artists - two who are participating in the exhibition - who are internationally renowned for their exceptional contribution to electronic music and for their groundbeaking performance work. This concert is co-produced by the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery and Minute.
