Événement X : toute une décennie de féminisme en art et technologie !

5-6 Octobre 2006, au Monument National

En 1996, Studio XX devenait le premier centre d’artistes féministes en Amérique du Nord en tant qu’organisme sans but lucratif ayant pour objectif principal de soutenir la création, l’exploration et la critique technologique faites par les femmes. Afin de souligner son 10e anniversaire, Studio XX convie le public et les acteurs impliqués dans le champ des arts médiatiques, les 5 et 6 octobre prochains, à un colloque qui fera le point sur les dix dernières années, mais plus encore pour inspirer les dix années à venir ! Événement X présentera des conférences avec des artistes et commissaires locales et internationales, de même que des performances d’artistes canadiennes, au Café et au Studio Hydro-Québec du Monument National (1182, boul. St-Laurent).

Dans un monde où les femmes sont de plus en plus nombreuses à maîtriser les technologies, mais où le terme « cyberféminisme » fait encore sourciller, il est d’autant plus pertinent de réfléchir sur la situation présente en mesurant la distance parcourue depuis dix ans. S’inspirant du magazine Wired, qui publiait l’an dernier un article portant sur le domaine des technologies intitulé « 10 ans qui ont changé le monde », le Studio XX désire évaluer son impact en tant que lieu de formation, de production, d’information, de diffusion et d’échange sur les réseaux qu’il a contribué à former, afin d’optimiser son action pour la décennie à venir.

Event X : A Whole Decade of Feminism in Art and Technology!

5-6 October 2006, at Monument National

In 1996, Studio XX became the first feminist artist-run centre in North America as a non-profit organisation with the main objective of supporting technological creation, exploration and critique by women. In order to highlight its 10th anniversary, Studio XX invites the public and all people engaged in the media arts to a conference on October 5th and 6th 2006 that will look back on the last ten years so as to inspire the ten years to come! Event X will feature lectures and panels by local and international artists and curators, as well as performances by Canadian artists, at the Café and Hydro-Québec Studio of the Monument National (1182, St-Laurent Blvd.).

In a world where an increasingly large number of women are technologically savvy, but where the expression “cyberfeminism” still leads to confusion, it is of special relevance to be thinking about the present state of affairs by measuring the distance achieved over the last ten years. Inspired by an article on new technologies that featured in Wired magazine and was entitled “10 Years that Changed the World”, Studio XX wants to examine its effect and affect as a site of education, production, information, dissemination and exchange within the networks that it contributed to build, in order to optimise its action for the upcoming decade.
