Afin de souligner son 10e anniversaire, Studio XX convie le public à une soirée de performances en compagnie de Diane Landry (Québec) et Shawna Dempsey /Lorri Millan (Manitoba). Animée par l'irremplaçable artiste en nouveaux médias Pascale Malaterre, cette soirée s'annonce haute en couleur en proposant des pratiques très différentes d'artistes connues internationnalement. Nous désirons ainsi montrer la diversité des points de vues et des approches que Studio XX soutient et encourage.

Diane Landry, Morse Alphabet Soup (Québec)

L’artiste multidisciplinaire Diane Landry présentera « Morse Alphabet Soup ». Cette nouvelle performance de Diane Landry est une adaptation d'un projet in situ commandé par la ville de Toronto et présenté dans le cadre de l'événement “Nuit Blanche” en septembre 2006. Une histoire muette sans début ni fin se développe avec la complicité de la lumière et de lentilles. Les choses ordinaires nourrissent un bouillon syncopé d'allusion, créant un consommé instantané. Morse Alphabet Soup, c'est une association de silhouettes, un tourbillon d'images, un brassage de mots qui se croisent, se battent et s'étouffent pour nous faire voir ce qui existent dans une surprenante disproportion et turbulence.

Artiste multidisciplinaire, Diane Landry crée des performances, des installations avec automatisation, des sculptures sonores, des oeuvres «Mouvelles». Ses oeuvres ont été présentées à travers le Canada, aux États-Unis, au Mexique, en Argentine, France, Belgique, Allemangne, Pologue et Suède.

Shawna Dempsey et Lorri Millan, Target Marketing (Manitoba)

Le duo dempsey/millan (de Winnipeg) présentera « Target Marketing », une performance qui porte une réflexion sur l'art ancestral de la tradition orale et utilise des juxtapositions des textes à un phénomène médiatique (violence accrue aux bulletins de nouvelles), avec une discussion sur les fonctions du cerveau.

Depuis plus d'une décennie, Shawna Dempsey et Lorri Milan, deux artistes multidiciplinaires de Winnipeg acclamées internationalement, ont créé un corpus d'oeuvres mordantes qui questionnent les enjeux sociaux féministes et lesbiens.

In order to highlight its 10th anniversary, Studio XX invites the public to a performance night with Diane Landry (Québec) and Shawna Dempsey /Lorri Millan (Manitoba). Presented by the outstanding media artist Pascale Malaterre, those performances, very different from one to another, shows the several approaches that Studio XX support and encourage.

Diane Landry (Quebec) Morse Alphabet Soup

This new performance from Diane Landry is an adaptation on an in-situ project presented at the Toronto's « Nuit Blanche » this september 2006. The artist will present a brand new performance developed via the complicity of light and lenses, forming an inspiring canvas of silhouettes, images and words within which the public will be able to circulate.

Multidisciplinary artist, Diane Landry creates performances, automated installations, sonic sculptures and new dynamic works. Her projects have been presented throughout Canada, the United States, in Mexico, in Argentina, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Sweden and are included in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Quebec. Landry received her bachelor’s degree in visual art from Laval University, she holds a master's degree in art from Stanford University in California.

Shawna Dempsey et Lorri Millan (Manitoba) Target Marketing

A piece called «Target Marketing», from the Winnipeg-based duo dempsey/millan will be performed by Shawna Dempsey in a costume which emulates the human target silhouette used by pistol marksmen. The text juxtaposes a media phenomenon (increased violence shown on the news) with a discussion on brain function.

In a collaboration that has spanned well over a decade, Winnipeg multi-disciplinary artists Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan have created a body of internationally acclaimed work that addresses feminist, lesbian, and social concerns with biting wit. Dempsey and Millan’s controversial music video, We’re Talking Vulva, represented Canada at the 3rd Istanbul Biennial, and has screened to an estimated audience of a million people, world-wide.
