Par les jardins : décalage et accueils délicats.

Une idée portée par Pascale Malaterre

Dans le jardin et la galerie, des artistes accueillent le public autour de leur travail sonore, vidéo et plastique.

Un jour, je vis un film de Mi-Jeong. Pour elle, c’était une esquisse, pour moi, un chef d’œuvre de décalage : Joseph et Olfa jouant en toute liberté deux vieilles dames Koréènnes assises sur une pelouse dans le Vieux-Montréal. La sensualité de ces différents orients mêlés me donna l’idée de cette expo. Une façon, en cet été 2007, de lutter contre nos invisibilités piétinées d’êtres libres.

Olfa Driss et Martin Leduc présentent une installation in situ. En s’inspirant de l’espace intime du jardin et du thème du décalage, ils recréent un univers sonore et visuel inédit. Bercés par les sons et les ambiances qui ajoutent diverses couches spatio-temporelles à celles du jardin et de la galerie, les spectateurs seront invités à vivre une expérience sensorielle et poétique.
Les vidéos, tournés et réalisés par Olfa Driss, proposent des décalages quant aux lieux et aux saisons.
La composition sonore a été réalisée par Martin Leduc à partir de longues cordes, mises en vibration par électromagnétisme.

Joseph El Hourany déplie quelques mètres de ses croquis de voyages. Lors de l’inauguration, il jouera et improvisera sur son harmonica oriental des re-distributions musicales de « A. , M. et Z. Rahbani », « M. Khalifeh » et « M. Abdel Wahab ».

" Turn around and…"
Cette installation vidéo embrasse un dialogue interculturel de deux présentations: "Ginseng - the soil" et "In-Between", qui sont composées de trois thèmes : l'harmonica, la famille et la cité. Sa simplicité artistique met l'emphase sur la réunion, la modernité et l'héritage. Il s'incarne par les couleurs issues de sources naturelles dans un chuchotement, dans chaque vue "retournez-vous et voyez..." pour créer votre propre espace-temps.

Un poème-vidéo qui se lit de droite à gauche. Une mosaïque. Un objet auquel je tiens parce que l’être aimé l’a porté. Et bien plus que cela.

Quelques mots sur les artistes :

Olfa Driss est artiste visuelle et réalise principalement des installations médiatiques. Ses oeuvres explorent l’interactivité en relation avec la poésie et la fiction. Elle utilise des dispositifs interactifs qui intègrent le spectateur dans le contenu de l’oeuvre afin de produire une expérience fictionnelle et poétique.

Joseph El-Hourany est architecte/urbaniste. Détenteur de plusieurs prix et concours architecturaux, sa pratique se concentre depuis 1999 sur la conception des objets de design ainsi qu’à la planification urbaine et régionale. Il détient le certificat « prestigieux HOHNER» de l’ouvrage du premier harmonica oriental et un certificat d’« appréciation - UNESCO » pour sa sculpture au symposium international de Aley 99.

Martin Leduc invente des instruments électroacoustiques inédits et réalise des installations sonores interactives où la composition algorithmique est augmentée par une approche systémique intégrant les spectateurs au processus créatif. Une poésie des relations avec l’espace, l’environnement et les écoutants tant par l’aspect sonore que visuel.

Mi-Jeong Lee est cinéaste, artiste visuelle, fondatrice de Ciné-Asie, une organisation à but non-lucratif en cinéma et directrice de la programmation des films asiatiques à Fantasia. Québéco-Canadienne d'origine coréenne, elle affirme un dialogue au-delà de l'espace-temps qui résonne dans les vides et pleins de ses pratiques artistiques.

Pascale Malaterre fait de la broderie électronique avec Digital Performer, uniquement avec ses voix transféminines, en contrepoint avec des environnements numériques signés Artificiel (Alexandre Burton, Jimmy Lakatos, Julien Roy) dans lesquels elle performe pour faire apparaître ces pans occultés de nous-même. A réalisé sites Web, vidéos, installations, écrit livrets d’opéra, poésie, pièces de théâtre, stand up Comic sous le nom de Candyde Granada. Vient de terminer une perfo au Centre Clark intitulée Sésame ouvre-moi (8 perso un projet de Julie Favreau). Son dernier site part à File, Sao Paolo, et elle-même en résidence à Paris en septembre. Cela fait 24 ans qu’elle est débutante en nouveaux médias.

One day, I saw a film by Mi-Jeong. For her, that was a sketch, for me, it was a fine work of “gap”: Joseph and Olfa in complete freedom in Old-Montreal, and an old Asian couple sitting next to each other. The sensuality of these different oriental mixes gave me the idea of this exhibition. A fashion, in this 2007 summer, to fight our invisibility trampled for being free.

The opening will take place on July 13 at 8:00 PM, with a performance and a site-specific installation. Mint tea will be served.
On closing night, July 28 at 8:00 PM, there will be performance and a screening of videos (a selection of young artists web-post and short videos from Korea and Tunisia).

Olfa Driss and Martin Leduc present a site-specific installation. While taking as a starting point the intimate space of the garden and the topic of the shift, they create a renewed sound and visual universe. Enchanted by the sounds and the environments, which add various space and time layers to those of the garden and the gallery, the spectators will be invited to live a sensory and poetic experience.
The videos, filmed and edited by Olfa Driss, propose shifts as for the places and the seasons.
Martin Leduc using long cords, put in vibration by electromagnetism, creates the sound composition.

Joseph El Hourany unfold some meters of his travel sketches. During the inauguration, he will perform on his exclusive oriental harmonica many distribution of « A. , M. et Z. Rahbani », « M. Khalifeh » and « M. Abdel Wahab ».

" Turn around and…"
The two presentations, "Ginseng-the Soil" and "In-Between", comprise this video installation. They embrace an inter-cultural dialogue that focuses on three themes: The Harmonica, The Family and The City. Mi-Jeong Lee's artistic simplicity emphasizes reunion, modernity, and heritage. Her work utilizes colours from natural sources with a whisper to each viewer "Turn around and see..." to create your own version of spacetime.

A video poem that you will read from the right to the left. Contamination through the different works of artists. Inviting masculine subtitle artists at la Centrale. A mosaic. Et bien plus que cela.

About the artists:

Olfa Driss is a visual artist specialized in media installations. Her Works explore the use of interactivity as a vehicle for poetry and fiction. She uses interactive devices, which integrate the spectator in an immersive environment, to produce a fictional and poetic experience.

Joseph El Hourany is both architect (Ms.) and urban planner (Ms.). Carrier of many architectural competition prices, his practice is concentrated since 1999 both over the design objects creation and urban planning intervention. Possessor of the “Prestigious HOHNER Certificate” for developing the first oriental harmonica. Holder of the "UESCO Appreciation Certificate" for his sculpture at “Aley international symposium - 1999”.

Martin Leduc designs unique electro acoustic instruments and creates interactive sound installations in which an algorithmic composition is combined with a systemic approach to turn spectators into part of the compositional system. His instruments are sculptures to be viewed, heard and modulated through their interaction with the public and the environment.

Mi-Jeong Lee is a cineaste, installation artist, founder of the not-for-profit film organization Cine-Asie, and programming director for the Asian section at Fantasia International Film Festival. The Korean-born Canadian artist creates a dialogue in her work that goes beyond spacetime and that simultaneously resonates with nothingness and fullness.

Pascale Malaterre creates sound digital embroidery with poetry and dramaturge structures, and interactivity with digital environments invited by Artificiel (Alexandre Burton, Jimmy Lakatos, Julien Roy). Her performance lets us be touched with all these invisible parts by ourselves that are often forbidden. She also did numerous Web sites, videos, installations, and wrote drama plays, Opera libretto, and did stand Up Comic under the name of Candyde Granada. She received prizes (for the John Cage 2002) and international nominations (le prix de Mondial Italia for radios). Recently, she successfully created a perfo at Clark Center. This fall, she is invited to present her last Web site at File, Sao Paolo and resides in artist residency in Paris.
