The internationally recognized ACM SIGGRAPH Conference
is seeking today's most innovative digital artwork for the
SIGGRAPH 2005 Art Gallery. The 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery
will be content driven. The technology will be in the service
of the art.
We are looking for artwork that traces threads through
time and space, figurative and abstract, linear and non-linear,
moving and still. We are particularly interested in 2D,
3D, and screen-based work that examines how the use of computer
graphics relates to the form and content of the artwork.
The exhibit will include media such as, new narrative forms,
generative works, game art, and book arts as well as 2-D
and 3-D media.
We invite Art Papers submissions that engage in critical
discourse about digital art and culture. The submissions
will be judged by a pre-eminent group of artists, curators
and critics.
The ACM SIGGRAPH Conference will be held in Los Angeles,
CA from July 31 to August 4, 2005.

Digifest aims to encourage excellence in interactive
digital media technology and supports the creators of
new applications and content that will provide lasting
economic, cultural and social benefits to Canadians.
The New Voices Competition is an opportunity for emerging
and mid-career designers, artists, and technologists to
showcase their latest innovations in digital media technologies.
Companies, design teams, digital media artists and other
content creators are eligible to submit new and innovative
ideas and applications in interactive digital media, games,
3D design, real-time environments, digital film and video,
web applications, mobile applications, digital performing
arts and all other digital idioms.
In keeping with this year's theme, entrants to the New
Voices competition are invited to submit work that furthers
our ability to imagine, engineer, and interact with "wild"
realms by engaging with digital technologies.

Teaching Position in Electronic Visualization at The School

The School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois
at Chicago is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member
at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to teach
real-time computer graphics programming, interactive computer
experiences and/or the production of 3D computer animation.
The candidate would be encouraged to participate as a leader
in research and media creation at the Electronic Visualization
Laboratory (EVL) and the new Center for Virtual Reality
in the Arts. There are opportunities for cross-disciplinary
teaching with our Graphic Design and Industrial Design programs.
Appointment begins August 16, 2005. Salary commensurate
with experience and qualifications.

InterAccess Electronic Media Arts Centre presents a lecture
by Buffalo-based artist and professor Dr. Steven Kurtz in
his first public appearance of 2005. The presentation follows
eight months of investigation by the FBI and US Joint Terrorism
Task force for bioterrorism-related offenses.
Kurtz is a founding member of Critical Art Ensemble (CAE),
an art collective interested in exploring the intersections
of art, technology and science. CAE's artistic projects
and writings intend to provide the public with information
and performances pertaining to biotechnology research. CAE's
most recent project includes a mobile DNA extraction laboratory
for testing food products for the presence of genetically
modified organisms.

Épicarpe : citrouille
Du 14 janvier au 11 février 2005
L'épicarpe est ce qu'on appelle la " peau "
du fruit. L'installation Épicarpe : citrouille montre
comment l'agriculture emprunte les cycles saisonniers naturels,
mais transforme le paysage pour répondre à
des besoins commerciaux non naturels. À partir de
matériaux végétaux ou d'imitations,
l'artiste construit des objets - des fictions agro-culturelles
- afin de susciter le questionnement sur le paysage rural,
façonné par l'industrie grandissante. Elle
sème le doute, crée des incertitudes pour
nous faire voir autrement ce que nous prenons pour acquis.
Quatre photographies couleurs, comme de grandes affiches
publicitaires, documentent les cycles de croissance de la
citrouille, de la fleur au fruit mûr. Au bas de chacune
d'elles, des codes sont inscrits de manière à
rappeler les panneaux de signalisations génétiques
qui bordent les champs agricoles.
Face à chacune de ces images, un îlot de sculptures-objets
est présenté sur une petite table blanche
en aluminium, d'allure
clinique. Y sont déposées des souliers - les
uns d'enfants, les
autres d'adultes - exhibant l'épicarpe de la citrouille,
du jeune
fruit, vert, au fruit mûr, orangé.
Cette installation fait entrer le spectateur dans la mise
en scène
d'un curieux laboratoire où des objets d'études
semblent être
placés sous observation. Pour l'avancement commercial
ou
environnemental ? Là réside toute la question.
