Institute of Information Sciences and Technology, Massey University, is pleased to announce that the 3rd International Conference on Autonomous Robots and Agents (ICARA 2006) will be held in Palmerston North, New Zealand from 12th to 14th December 2006. Selected papers will be considered for publication in an issue titled Autonomous Robots and Agents which will be published by Springer-Verlag in the book series Studies in Computational Intelligence in June 2007.

Concours de bande annonces de jeux vidéo

La Société des arts technologiques [SAT] a décidé de présenter et d’organiser un concours de bandes annonces de jeux vidéos dans le cadre du festival FANTASIA 2006. Ce concours a pour but de stimuler la création dans le milieu spécialisé des développeurs et des créateurs de jeux vidéos et aussi des artistes vidéastes et musiciens de la scène électronique. ANIMA, est la bannière sous laquelle la SAT regroupe des activités liées au jeu vidéo. Le présent concours est une initiative de la SAT et de Fantasia et rejoint des préoccupations communes de développer un projet pour cette clientèle spécialisée.

Depuis 1994, sa liste de diffusion, ses discussions enligne et hors ligne, ses publications et ses rencontres ont galvanisé une quantité de réseaux transnationaux de même que leurs praticiens, développant ainsi une expression de cette culture sous le nom de "net.criticism." En 2006, Nettime célèbre son 11e anniversaire, fort d'une décennie de publications, d'interventions et de débats. Cela étant dit, quel est le rôle continu et l'impact de Nettime de nos jours?
La rencontre inaugura l'édition 2006 du festival de culture numérique MUTEK.

In 2006, Nettime celebrates its 11th birthday against the backdrop of over a decade of publications, interventions and debates. But what is the continuing role and impact of Nettime today?
The gathering will also launch the 2006 edition of the Mutek festival of digital culture.

« Engineering and nature may seem miles apart but, in fact, they share a common physics phenomenon: the generation of flow configuration, in time. The tree-shaped architecture is one of many examples that unite the animate with the inanimate, and the natural with the engineered (lungs, river basins, urban networks, etc.). This phenomenon is captured by the constructal law: “For a flow system to persist in time (to survive) it must evolve in such a way that it provides easier and easier access to the currents that flow through it”. This lecture will illustrate how flow configuration generation is deduced from principle. Examples include tree networks for distribution and collection, animal locomotion, distribution of sizes of human settlements, earth climate, and the Pyramids. This theoretical point of view rises above the fences that separate physics, biology and engineering. Everything is nature (physics), and design is science. »

Ce deuxième volet regroupe les oeuvres d'Edith Dekyndt (communauté française de Belgique), Leif Elggren (Suède), Raymond Gervais (Québec), Mika Taanila (Finlande) et Mika Vainio (Finlande/Allemagne). L'exposition réunit des installations, des oeuvres sonores et une projection vidéo.
