The Institute of Information Sciences and Technology,
Massey University, is pleased to announce that the 2nd
International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST
2007) will be held on the 26th – 28th November
2007 in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
ICST 2007 is intended to provide a common forum for researchers, scientists,
engineers and practitioners throughout the world to present their latest research
findings, ideas, developments and applications in the area of sensing technology.

Call for Artist Projects
for 30th Anniversary Issue
Deadline: June 30, 2007
FUSE magazine is pleased to announce
an open call for artist projects to be included in
our 30th anniversary issue, on newsstands Fall 2007.
The 30th anniversary issue is devoted to assessing
the state of our present, those intersections that
we feel are critically in need of address at this moment
in history--indigeneity, occupation and settler states;
security and war; status and migration; the politics
of identity; the workings of institutions; and social
and economic precarity. The issue will consist of a series
of conversations about these themes amongst artists,
activists, community organizers and academics internationally
and from across the country.
Artists are invited to create
work in any medium that would be suitable for reproduction
as a poster and that speaks to one or multiple themes
listed above. Artist projects will be printed and displayed
at the launch event in October, 2007

The University of Western Ontario, Department of Visual Arts, invites applications
for a limited-term appointment (August 1, 2007 - May 31, 2008) in Studio Art
at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer. The successful candidate will
have an MFA or other terminal degree, exhibition and teaching experience, and
specialize in sculpture and installation. Teaching will include introductory
and advanced level sculpture courses as well as first year visual fundamentals.
The position will also involve mentoring students in the MFA program.
Curriculum vitae, twenty slides or digital images of recent work, and names

The Department of Visual Arts invites applications for a Visiting Artist. This
is a limited term appointment at the rank of assistant. Areas of creative studio
specialization are open. The appointment will begin July 1, 2007 for the period
of 12 months.
The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Visual Arts (VISA)
and will be asked to teach 2 full course credits (4 half credits) in studio
courses appropriate to the applicant’s creative interests although it
is anticipated that the visiting artist will teach at least one course in foundation
studio.
Candidate will be a practicing artist with a significant record of creative
achievement and exhibition. S/he must have a MFA or the equivalent in exhibition
history. The successful candidate must provide evidence of successful teaching
experience.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae; creative profile and examples of
creative production (slides, CD or DVD); statement of teaching philosophy with
evidence of teaching success and/or teaching dossier; and three letters of

Le
SMPTE met sur pied 2 camps de jour HD
13 et 14 juin 2007
Suite au succès remporté par
les récentes
conférences sur le HD, les chapitres québécois
du SMPTE invitent les professionnels et la population
en général à deux journées
de formation sur le HD.
Le nombre de places est limité.
Le coût
de la formation varie selon différentes formules,
mais on peut bénéficier d’un rabais
pour une inscription effectuée avant le 7 juin.

Les
installations éphémères seront
actives lors du vernissage
Dans l’exposition Fonte
de Contrôle, Sonia
Paradis utilise le langage de l’abstraction et juxtapose
des tableaux à des installations éphémères
où la glace, en performant sa disparition, remplace
la main du peintre. Les tableaux, qui unissent de la matière
ayant prit forme suite aux effets des lois naturelles à
celle ayant subit la contrainte de la précision
humaine, témoignent de sa
chorégraphie et de sa quête pour définir
l’harmonie: une fusion entre l’acquiescement
et la résistance.

Invités à intervenir sur le site spécifique
de l’atelier/galerie, les quatorze artistes explorent
les problématiques liées à l’expérience

mémoire du lieu, aux idées d’interstice,
d’archivage et d’espaces transitoires. Ainsi,
TRANSIT propose un pôle réflexif sur la multiplicité des

Dans le cadre du festival St-Ambroise
Fringe de Montréal,
Alexandre Martin d'Étrange Attracteur s'applique à remixer
son œuvre Escuriales créée en 2003.
Escuriales Remixed deux personnages et un concepteur sonore
qui, réunis dans un "jam" théâtral,
feront émerger les émotions les plus diverses.
Une expérience où la technique et l'organique
se rencontrent dans un crescendo de sensations.
À
sa première participation au Fringe, Alexandre Martin
cumule les rôles de compositeur scénique et
d'interprète ce qui lui permet de prendre part de
façon intime et intense au spectacle qu'il a créé il
y a quatre ans.

SONDE est un groupe montréalais
de compositeurs et d'interprètes de musique électroacoustique.
Leurs compositions étaient généralement
conçues pour l'exécution en concert sur des
sculptures sonores originales. Privilégiant l'improvisation
méditative, SONDE a fait naître, à partir
de matériaux sonores élémentaires
révélés par l'amplification électronique
et des transformations électroacoustiques, des compositions
qui conservent aujourd'hui la richesse et la spontanéité des
moments de leur création.

Peur, un deuxième dossier de la revue esse sera
consacré à ce sujet.
Dans ce dossier, nous souhaitons réfléchir
sur le sentiment de peur qui nous envahit au quotidien à travers
le questionnement de diverses pratiques artistiques qui
y ont recours ou qui tentent de le neutraliser.

immersifs, performances audiovisuelles, art web, dispositifs
de réalité virtuelle,
photographies, art “relationnel”, les œuvres
dites interactives, tout comme les textes les concernant,
abondent en art contemporain. Devant les nombreuses possibilités
que convoque l’interactivité – participer,
modifier, contaminer, interagir –, il devient primordial
de se pencher sur le rôle, voire sur la tâche,
du « spect-acteur ».
Que signifie « participer » dans
une société du
spectacle ? La sphère des actions réciproques
déborde-t-elle de la sphère de la représentation
? L’art contemporain a-t-il su renouveler l’action
réciproque en tant qu’action politique effective
? C'est notamment sur ces questions que nous invitons les
auteurs à réfléchir dans le cadre
de ce dossier.

Installations, immersive environments,
audiovisual performances, web art, virtual reality devices,
photographs, “relational” art,
so-called interactive works—these as well as related
texts abound in contemporary art. Considering the numerous
possibilities offered by interactivity—participation,
alteration, contamination, interaction—it has become
essential to think about the role, even the task, of the “spect-actor.”
In
a society of the spectacle, what does participation mean?
Does the sphere of mutual action go beyond the sphere
of representation? Has contemporary art succeeded in
renewing mutual action as effective political action? These
are
some of the questions we are inviting writers to reflect
upon in the context of this issue.
