The Institute of Information Sciences and Technology,
Massey University, is pleased to announce that the 2nd
International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST
2007) will be held on the 26th – 28th November
2007 in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
ICST 2007 is intended to provide a common forum for researchers, scientists,
engineers and practitioners throughout the world to present their latest research
findings, ideas, developments and applications in the area of sensing technology.

Reminder - Call for
Artist Projects for 30th Anniversary Issue
Deadline: June 30, 2007
FUSE magazine is pleased to announce
an open call for artist projects to be included in
our 30th anniversary issue, on newsstands Fall 2007.
The 30th anniversary issue is devoted to assessing
the state of our present, those intersections that
we feel are critically in need of address at this moment
in history--indigeneity, occupation and settler states;
security and war; status and migration; the politics
of identity; the workings of institutions; and social
and economic precarity. The issue will consist of a series
of conversations about these themes amongst artists,
activists, community organizers and academics internationally
and from across the country.
Artists are invited to create
work in any medium that would be suitable for reproduction
as a poster and that speaks to one or multiple themes
listed above. Artist projects will be printed and displayed
at the launch event in October, 2007

ARTS - Sculpture Position

The University of Western Ontario, Department of Visual Arts, invites applications
for a limited-term appointment (August 1, 2007 - May 31, 2008) in Studio Art
at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer. The successful candidate will
have an MFA or other terminal degree, exhibition and teaching experience, and
specialize in sculpture and installation. Teaching will include introductory
and advanced level sculpture courses as well as first year visual fundamentals.
The position will also involve mentoring students in the MFA program.
Curriculum vitae, twenty slides or digital images of recent work, and names
of three references should be sent with application (do not fax or e-mail)

The Department of Visual Arts invites applications for a Visiting Artist. This
is a limited term appointment at the rank of assistant. Areas of creative studio
specialization are open. The appointment will begin July 1, 2007 for the period
of 12 months.
The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Visual Arts (VISA)
and will be asked to teach 2 full course credits (4 half credits) in studio
courses appropriate to the applicant’s creative interests although it
is anticipated that the visiting artist will teach at least one course in foundation
studio.
Candidate will be a practicing artist with a significant record of creative
achievement and exhibition. S/he must have a MFA or the equivalent in exhibition
history. The successful candidate must provide evidence of successful teaching
experience.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae; creative profile and examples of
creative production (slides, CD or DVD); statement of teaching philosophy with
evidence of teaching success and/or teaching dossier; and three letters of

SBC galerie d'art contemporain est heureuse
de présenter
cinema, une projection/installation in situ de l'artiste
Lani Maestro. Au programme des quatre soirées d'ouverture
de la Biennale de Venise 2007, cet événement
satellite aura lieu sur le populaire Campo Santa Margherita.
Le
titre de cette ouvre, cinema , établit une relation
paradoxale entre le cinéma - soit des images animées
- et le mot japonais « ma », qui exprime la
notion de vide ou de néant. La rétroprojection,
visionnée la nuit depuis Campo Santa Margherita, émerge
des fenêtres d'un appartement privé situé en
haut de l'ancien cinema moderno, dont le nom demeure tracé en
tuiles sur la façade blanche moderne.

Le HMMM est un événement sonore spectaculaire,
se déroulant le samedi 16 juin, de 15 h 30 à 16
h, sur le boulevard Saint-Laurent entre les rues Sherbrooke
et Mont-Royal.
Son but est de réunir les Montréalais par
le moyen de l'expression vocale, et d'embellir cette rue
déjà magnifique. Notre intention n'est assurément
pas de déranger, mais plutôt d'amplifier la
conscience qu'ont les citoyens de leur environnement sonore.

Light

La SAT[Galerie]
présente les réalisations
non seulement sonores mais transdisciplinaires et graphiques
du collectif allemand de réputation internationale
raster-noton.
Deux néons disposés à une hauteur
de 1m 50 du sol et d'une longueur de 8 mètres séparent
la salle dans sa longueur. Ils imposent le nom de l’exposition
: White Line Light. Leur intensité lumineuse varie
selon le flux d'énergie issu d'une composition musicale
originale diffusée dans l’espace de la galerie.
Un papier peint inédit, dont les motifs sont les
symboles graphiques de textures sonores, se déploie
dans la galerie.

Peur, un deuxième dossier de la revue esse sera
consacré à ce sujet.
Dans ce dossier, nous souhaitons réfléchir
sur le sentiment de peur qui nous envahit au quotidien à travers
le questionnement de diverses pratiques artistiques qui
y ont recours ou qui tentent de le neutraliser.

immersifs, performances audiovisuelles, art web, dispositifs
de réalité virtuelle,
photographies, art “relationnel”, les œuvres
dites interactives, tout comme les textes les concernant,
abondent en art contemporain. Devant les nombreuses possibilités
que convoque l’interactivité – participer,
modifier, contaminer, interagir –, il devient primordial
de se pencher sur le rôle, voire sur la tâche,
du « spect-acteur ».
Que signifie « participer » dans
une société du
spectacle ? La sphère des actions réciproques
déborde-t-elle de la sphère de la représentation
? L’art contemporain a-t-il su renouveler l’action
réciproque en tant qu’action politique effective
? C'est notamment sur ces questions que nous invitons les
auteurs à réfléchir dans le cadre
de ce dossier.

Installations, immersive environments,
audiovisual performances, web art, virtual reality devices,
photographs, “relational” art,
so-called interactive works—these as well as related
texts abound in contemporary art. Considering the numerous
possibilities offered by interactivity—participation,
alteration, contamination, interaction—it has become
essential to think about the role, even the task, of the “spect-actor.”
In
a society of the spectacle, what does participation mean?
Does the sphere of mutual action go beyond the sphere
of representation? Has contemporary art succeeded in
renewing mutual action as effective political action? These
are
some of the questions we are inviting writers to reflect
upon in the context of this issue.
